According to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office, the group heard gunfire, scrambled from the vehicle and ran; Allen was struck multiple times in the torso. He was taken to Stroger Hospital and pronounced dead at 11:32 a.m.
Family described him as a father of three and an aspiring mixed martial arts fighter who had been trying to keep his life on track. He lived on the same block where the shooting occurred.
Witness accounts in initial reporting said two men approached the car on foot, opened fire, and fled the scene. Police at the time did not announce a motive, and while a police source characterized Allen as a documented gang member, his family disputed that portrayal.
