In the city of Albany, Georgia, the life of 48-year-old Jerri Dudley was tragically cut short in what became the city's first homicide of 2023. On the morning of Friday, January 27, 2023, police responded to a shooting at the Sunrise Inn located at 2706 N. Slappey Blvd. There, they found Dudley with a gunshot wound to the head. She was transported to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The Dougherty County Coroner, Michael Fowler, stated that there appeared to have been an altercation at the inn.
Investigators quickly identified a suspect in the fatal shooting. Anthony Manriquez, a 17-year-old, was named as the individual sought in connection with Dudley's death. Just days later, on a Tuesday, Manriquez was apprehended in Baconton after the Mitchell County Sheriff's Office received a tip regarding his location. His arrest brought to light that he was no stranger to the location of the crime, having been a suspect in a previous, non-fatal shooting at the very same hotel where he allegedly shot a different victim in the arm.
Following his arrest, Anthony Grivalva Mariquez faced serious charges for his alleged role in Jerri Dudley's death. The charges brought against the teenager included felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes. This was in addition to an aggravated assault charge from the earlier incident at the Sunrise Inn. Jerri Dudley, a graduate of Lee County High School, was a mother and grandmother, remembered for her love of the arts, her passion as a chef, and her collection of antique dolls.
