In a tragic incident that unfolded in the early hours of March 20, 2023, Corey Dashon Gray, a 50-year-old Black/African American male, was shot and killed in his Conyers, Georgia, home. The violence that erupted in the quiet Honey Creek subdivision also claimed the lives of two of his family members, 51-year-old Tamekio Renay Gray and 17-year-old Joii Renee Gray.
The domestic dispute turned deadly, leaving a community in shock and a family shattered by loss.
Responding to a call of shots fired just after midnight, Rockdale County sheriff's deputies arrived at the Sugar Creek Lane residence to a grim scene. Inside, they discovered the bodies of Corey, Tamekio, and Joii, all of whom had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. The alleged perpetrator, 21-year-old Jailon Gray, a relative of the victims, was still at the location and was taken into custody without incident. Authorities later described the event as the result of an argument that escalated to a fatal shooting.
Jailon Gray was subsequently charged with three counts of felony murder and three counts of aggravated assault. During his initial court appearance, he was denied bond. Warrants revealed that he allegedly admitted to killing two of the victims but claimed to have no memory of what happened to the third. The emotional court hearing saw family members expressing their support for Jailon, with one relative urging him to 'take it slow' and another describing the situation as 'surreal.' The case against Jailon Gray is ongoing.
