In the small town of Ocilla, Georgia, the life of 26-year-old Robert Wilcox was cut short on the evening of Wednesday, June 1, 2023. Remembered as a kind, selfless, and ambitious man who went by the nickname 'Gucci,' Wilcox was a graduate of Irwin County High School and a father to one child. His sudden and violent death sent ripples of shock and grief through the community.
On that fateful evening, at approximately 6:15 PM, the Ocilla Police Department received a call reporting a shooting on North Roosevelt Street. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Wilcox with gunshot wounds and unresponsive. Despite the immediate response, his injuries proved to be fatal. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist the local police with the homicide investigation, a standard procedure for such serious crimes in the state.
The investigation quickly led to the identification of a suspect, 18-year-old Halique Jordan Jr. of Ocilla. A little over a week after the shooting, on a Friday afternoon, law enforcement located and arrested Jordan in the nearby city of Cordele. His arrest was the result of a joint effort between the Crisp County Sheriff's Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The arrest took place at a residence on 15th Street in Cordele, where a search warrant was executed.
Following his apprehension, Halique Jordan Jr. was transported to Irwin County to face a series of grave charges. These included felony murder, malice murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. While an arrest has been made, the investigation into the circumstances and motive behind the fatal shooting of Robert Wilcox remains ongoing. The case will eventually be handed over to the Tift Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for prosecution, where the next chapter in the quest for justice for Wilcox and his family will unfold.
