On September 5, 2023, Dareese Ellis, a 28-year-old resident of Peachtree Corners, Georgia, was fatally shot outside the HomeTowne Studios motel located in the 7000 block of Jimmy Carter Boulevard in Norcross, Gwinnett County. The incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. when officers from the Gwinnett County Police Department responded to a call and found Ellis's body in the motel's parking lot.
