In the late hours of a Tuesday evening, a dispute at a Norcross hotel tragically escalated, claiming the life of 29-year-old Andre Jones. The incident occurred just before midnight on June 17, 2025, in the 6000 block of Dawson Boulevard, an address corresponding to the Horizon Inn and Suites. Jones was shot in the chest and was rushed to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. During the altercation, an uninvolved woman was also struck by a bullet in the leg.
The investigation into the shooting led Gwinnett County police to two suspects. Dametris Bush, 33, of Marietta, and Jaharri Foster, 28, of Stockbridge, were both arrested in the days following the shooting. Bush was taken into custody in DeKalb County and faced a slew of charges including malice murder, felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of certain felonies, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Foster was apprehended by the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Task Force and was charged with malice murder, felony murder, and two counts of aggravated assault.
Prosecutors later revealed the motive behind the senseless act of violence. The murder was described as a retaliatory act, a case of 'death for disrespect' connected to the Gangster Disciples street gang. Bush, a member of the gang, had reportedly been recruited to retaliate against Jones, who was mistakenly believed to have stolen a firearm from a gang associate. However, investigators determined that Jones had no gang affiliations and was not involved in the theft. Surveillance footage from the motel showed Bush and two co-defendants at the location earlier on the day of the killing; they left and returned hours later when the fatal shooting occurred. A license plate reader that captured the tag of the getaway car was instrumental in identifying the suspects.
In February 2026, Dametris Bush was sentenced for his role in the murder of Andre Jones. A Gwinnett County judge sentenced Bush to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 40 years. A jury had previously convicted him of murder and gang-related charges. Jones was remembered by his mother, Gerrica Wilson, as a lively and unapologetic person who was a father to three boys. She expressed her devastation at the loss of her son, who she said would call her every morning and night.
