In the spring of 2021, a young man's life was cut short in the parking lot of a Peachtree Corners convenience store. Kendall Reid, a 22-year-old Black male, was a frequent customer at the A-1 Market on Peachtree Corners Circle, and on the afternoon of Sunday, April 25th, he arrived for what would be his final visit. There, he met with a family acquaintance, 22-year-old Aaron Woods. An altercation erupted between the two men, the exact nature of which remains unclear, but it concluded with tragic finality when Woods allegedly shot Reid.
Police were dispatched to the scene around 2 p.m. and found Kendall Reid lying between two parked cars, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Paramedics with the Gwinnett County Fire Department attempted to render aid, but his injuries were too severe, and he died at the scene. Investigators quickly identified Aaron Woods as the suspect and secured warrants for his arrest on charges of felony murder and aggravated assault.
For a month, Woods remained at large. The search for him came to a dramatic end on a Tuesday evening in May. Gwinnett County sheriff's deputies, believing they had located Woods inside an apartment in Peachtree Corners, attempted to make contact. When their attempts were unsuccessful, and believing Woods had barricaded himself inside, the Gwinnett Police SWAT team was called to the scene. After several hours with no communication, the SWAT team made entry into the apartment. Inside, they found Aaron Woods deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The case that began with a fatal shooting in a parking lot concluded with the death of the sole suspect, closing the investigation into the death of Kendall Reid.
