On September 6, 2023, at approximately 7:30 a.m., 16-year-old Shamiruna Coney of Dublin, Georgia, was fatally shot in an incident that has been described as a tragic case of mistaken identity.

Coney had gone to a home on Woodlawn Street in Dublin, where she was shot by the occupant of the house, Latavious Ramon Walker, who was 20 years old at the time.
