In the quiet community of Canton, Georgia, a simmering family discord culminated in a tragic and violent outburst on the morning of October 3, 2023. Paul Miceli, a 55-year-old White male, was found shot to death in the driveway of his Butterworth Road home. The devastating event sent ripples of shock through the neighborhood and prompted a temporary lockdown at four nearby schools as a precautionary measure.
Responding to a call of a person shot at approximately 11:24 a.m., deputies from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office arrived to find Mr. Miceli deceased from gunshot wounds. As they secured the scene and began their investigation, they discovered a second man on the property. This individual was identified as 80-year-old Robert Aycock, Miceli's father-in-law. Aycock was found behind the house with a gun nearby, suffering from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
