In the quiet community of Tifton, Georgia, a life was tragically cut short on the evening of November 30, 2023. Derrick D. Wilson, a 20-year-old male, was found deceased inside a vehicle near the intersection of Clay Drive and Ferry Lakes Road. The cause of his untimely death was a fatal shooting that also left two other individuals wounded. The incident unfolded at approximately 7:03 p.m. when Tifton Police were dispatched to the area following reports of gunshots. Upon their arrival, officers discovered a grim scene with three victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
The two other victims of the shooting, an 18-year-old female and a 19-year-old male, were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. In the wake of the violence, the Tifton Police Department requested the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to delve into the circumstances surrounding the homicide. As the investigation progressed, a significant development occurred. On December 6, 2023, the authorities arrested 16-year-old Izaya Harpe in connection with the death of Derrick Wilson.
Harpe was subsequently charged with felony murder for his alleged role in the shooting. Following his arrest, he was taken to a youth detention facility to be held. The investigation into the shooting that claimed one life and injured two others is described as active and ongoing. Once the comprehensive investigation is concluded, the case file will be turned over to the Tift Judicial Circuit for prosecution. An autopsy was scheduled to be performed at the GBI Crime Lab in Macon to determine the precise cause and manner of Wilson's death.
