On January 19, 2024, a fatal shooting occurred at the Motel 6 located on Monroe Drive in Gainesville, Georgia. The incident was reported to the Gainesville Police Department at approximately 2:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found 34-year-old Destyn Rashad Alexander of Braselton, who had been shot in the chest. Alexander was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
