In the early morning hours of Saturday, January 20, 2024, a night out at a club on Gordon Highway in Augusta, Georgia, turned tragic, ending the life of 22-year-old Chrishawn Bennelle Martin. The young man was at Club Rain when gunfire erupted, shattering the weekend revelry.
Richmond County deputies were called to the scene, where they discovered Martin suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to Wellstar MCG Health for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Chrishawn Martin succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 2:11 a.m.
The investigation into the fatal shooting continued for several months. In September 2024, the Richmond County Sheriff's Office announced a significant development in the case with the arrest of a suspect. Twenty-nine-year-old Michael Scott was taken into custody and charged with murder in connection with Chrishawn Martin's death. In addition to the murder charge, Scott also faced a charge of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
