In February 2024, the life of 23-year-old Michaela “Angel” Chaney was tragically cut short in Warner Robins, Georgia. The young woman, who was a student at Central Georgia Technical College pursuing a degree in nursing, was found deceased after her family reported her missing. The investigation into her disappearance began on the morning of February 3, 2024, when Warner Robins police discovered her vehicle abandoned. Later that day, after her mother was unable to contact her, officers performed a welfare check at Chaney's apartment and found signs of a struggle.
The search for Michaela Chaney ended in sorrow when her body was discovered in a wooded area. The investigation quickly focused on her ex-boyfriend, 24-year-old Jayveon Jermaine Bivins. Prosecutors stated that Bivins had gone to Chaney's apartment to confront her about text messages she had received from another man. The two had recently ended their relationship. During the confrontation, Bivins became enraged and fatally shot Chaney in the head with a firearm he found in her purse.
Following the murder, Bivins attempted to conceal his crime. He wrapped Chaney's body in a sheet and comforter, placed her in the trunk of her car, and disposed of her remains in the woods. He then returned to her apartment to clean the scene, removing shell casings and a Ring doorbell camera. Bivins also used bleach to clean the vehicle before abandoning it. In addition to killing Michaela, her beloved dog Milo was also killed.
Jayveon Bivins was arrested and faced a number of charges, including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and concealing the death of another. After a four-day trial in April 2025, a Houston County jury found Bivins guilty on multiple counts. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, with an additional 20 years to be served consecutively. The District Attorney described the murder as a 'tragedy in every sense of the word' and an act of 'senseless violence.'
