On the night of what should have been a memorable high school prom, a promising young athlete's life was cut short in a burst of gunfire. Daryus Bryant, a 16-year-old Black male, was shot and killed in Columbus, Georgia, on April 20, 2024. The shooting happened around 11:50 p.m. near the intersection of Macon and Lake Shore roads. Bryant, a junior at Manchester High School, was leaving his prom when someone opened fire at a red light. He was just a week away from his 17th birthday.
