In the early evening of May 26, 2024, the quiet of Keens Crossing Road in East Dublin, Georgia, was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Responding to a call at approximately 6:45 p.m., deputies from the Laurens County Sheriff's Office discovered a grim scene. In a ditch alongside the road lay the body of 21-year-old Nicholas Nickson, a White male from the nearby town of Wrightsville. He had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at 7:43 p.m. by the Laurens County Deputy Coroner.
An investigation was immediately launched by the Laurens County Sheriff's Office. Their efforts quickly led them to a suspect, 20-year-old Roy Lee Brown of Dublin. Just three days after the discovery of Nickson's body, Brown was taken into custody without incident. He was subsequently charged with murder, with other charges pending. The case then moved to the judicial system, where Brown had his first court hearing. During this appearance, he was granted a bond of $125,000. After spending three months incarcerated, Brown was released and is reportedly under surveillance with an ankle monitor as he awaits his trial.
