In the early evening of July 23, 2024, the life of 21-year-old Xavier Hoffman was tragically cut short in Savannah, Georgia. Officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Shawnee Street around 6:00 p.m. following a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival at the scene, they discovered Hoffman inside an apartment, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical aid was rendered at the location in an attempt to save his life, but Hoffman's injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Savannah Police Department has since launched a homicide investigation into the shooting death of the young, Black / African American male.
As of the days following the incident, authorities had not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the case. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue to seek information from the public to piece together the events that led to Hoffman's untimely death. His passing marked the 20th homicide in the city of Savannah for the year 2024.
