In the late summer of 2024, the life of 18-year-old Jeffrey Tyler Ray of Rydal, Georgia, was tragically cut short. On the evening of Sunday, August 25th, a gathering of young people at an outdoor party on Sexton Road in Resaca, Murray County, turned violent. During the event, gunshots rang out, striking Ray. First responders arrived to find the young man gravely wounded. He was quickly transported to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he succumbed to them later that same day. Another individual at the party was also struck by gunfire, sustaining a non-fatal wound to the face.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to lead the inquiry into the shooting, working in conjunction with the Murray County Sheriff's Office. Their investigation swiftly led to the identification of several suspects. Within days, four individuals were taken into custody in connection with the incident that led to Jeffrey Tyler Ray's death. The investigation remains active and ongoing as authorities continue to piece together the events of that fatal night.
The individuals arrested face serious charges, reflecting the gravity of the outcome of the house party. Anthony Wilkinson, a 25-year-old from Calhoun, was charged with aggravated assault and felony murder. TyKel Keshawn Hutchinson, 19, of Rome, and a 16-year-old, also from Rome, face the same charges of aggravated assault and felony murder. A fourth individual, 17-year-old Keano Nestor of Rome, was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence related to the case. The community continues to seek answers and justice for the untimely death of the young man.
