In Colbert, Georgia, a community was left in mourning after the tragic death of April Marie Kelley, a 45-year-old Black/African American woman, on October 6, 2024. The events that unfolded painted a grim picture of domestic turmoil culminating in a devastating loss.
Concerned family members were prompted to visit April's home on Brittany Point after discovering a troubling video posted on Facebook by her estranged husband, 48-year-old Ricky Kelley.
Upon their arrival, they found the house locked. Forcing their way inside, they were met with a horrific scene: the bodies of both April and Ricky Kelley were on the floor.
The Madison County Sheriff's Office was immediately summoned to the residence. Investigators quickly determined the incident to be a murder-suicide. It is believed that Ricky Kelley took his wife's life before turning the gun on himself. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation's forensics unit was called in to assist with processing the crime scene. Autopsies were ordered to confirm the causes of death.
