On Easter morning, March 31, 2024, the life of 17-year-old Jania Mobley was tragically cut short in Columbus, Georgia. The young woman was one of two fatalities in a shooting that occurred in the early hours of the morning.
The incident unfolded on 10th Street, where police responded to a report of shots fired. Mobley and another individual, Christopher Collins, were discovered with gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Another person was also injured in the shooting.
In the weeks following the deadly shooting, law enforcement officials identified a suspect in Mobley's death. On April 23, 2024, 19-year-old Amarion Boone was taken into custody by a team of officers from the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office, the Columbus Police Department, the United States Marshal's Service, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Boone is facing a number of serious charges in connection with the death of Jania Mobley, including murder, six counts of aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Authorities indicated that the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
