Luther Lewis Williams IV was remembered by those who knew him as a "gentle giant" with a very laid-back and loving personality. The 44-year-old Black man, who sometimes went by the nickname Mosheh, worked at a company called Matrix. His life was defined by the affection he shared with his family and friends, who recalled his gentle nature.
On January 15, 2023, Williams was killed by gun violence in Jacksonville, Florida. He was one of three victims in a tragic triple homicide.
The other two people who lost their lives that day were Gregory Merritt, 63, and Uneeda Hardy, 58.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a shooting in the North Jacksonville area and discovered the three victims deceased. The investigation that followed quickly led authorities to a suspect.
An 18-year-old named Ja-Darrius Jones was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the three deaths. According to news reports at the time, the other two victims, Merritt and Hardy, were Jones's grandparents.
The case proceeded through the legal system and concluded in April 2025, when Ja-Darrius Jones was tried and found guilty for the triple murder. While the court case has ended, the community continues to mourn the loss of three lives, and Luther Williams is deeply missed by those who loved him.
