Thomas Joseph Szafranski, a 29-year-old officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, tragically lost his life on May 24, 1981, in Jacksonville, Florida. Officer Szafranski was on duty, sitting in his patrol car near Davis Street and Sixth Street, when he was fatally shot by a sniper using a high-powered rifle.
