On January 15, 2023, a fatal shooting occurred in Homestead, Florida, resulting in the death of 24-year-old Dontravis Byrd. The incident took place in the 700 block of Southwest Sixth Street at a duplex residence. The shooting was reported at 3:48 p.m., with Homestead police officers being flagged down by passersby who notified them about the incident. Additionally, officers received a ShotSpotter alert that led them to the scene.
