On August 17, 2024, Sherman Stroud, a 35-year-old man, was fatally shot in the area of NW 12 Street and NW 7 Avenue in Florida City, which is in southwest Miami-Dade County. The incident occurred late Saturday night, with the Florida City Police responding to a "multi-gunshot detection alert" around 11:45 p.m. Additional calls reported a person shot in the same area, prompting police to rush to the scene.
