Juan Carlos Hoyos, a 34-year-old man from Homestead, Florida, tragically lost his life on April 7, 2025, in what authorities have described as a senseless act of violence. The incident occurred outside a Wawa gas station in southwest Miami-Dade, near Southwest 248th Street and 112th Avenue, just after 5 p.m. Surveillance footage captured the confrontation that led to his death, showing Hoyos engaged in a heated argument with another man before the situation escalated into a physical altercation. Moments later, the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Pablo Juarez, pulled out a firearm and shot Hoyos at close range.
Hoyos, who was wearing a black bandana at the time of the incident, was critically injured and airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds. Authorities reported that Juarez fled the scene in a gray Chevrolet 1500 but was apprehended approximately a mile and a half away from the crime scene. When deputies stopped him, they discovered an empty gun holster in his pocket. Juarez was taken into custody and is currently facing one count of second-degree murder with a weapon. He is being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as investigators continue to determine the motive behind the deadly dispute.
