On May 10, 2023, a tragic incident occurred at the Residences West Place Apartments in the 700 block of Sherwood Terrace Drive in Pine Hills, Orlando, Florida. Deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene around 10:10 a.m. after a report of a man with a gun inside the apartment.
Upon arrival, deputies were informed that the man had fired his gun, and they heard additional gunfire as they approached the scene.
Inside the apartment, they found 25-year-old Brisna Alcenat and 22-year-old Yaseen Justus Thomas, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Investigators determined that Thomas had shot Alcenat before shooting himself in the head.
An innocent bystander in the apartment was also grazed by one of the bullets and received treatment at the scene. Both Thomas and Alcenat were taken to a hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries.
The incident is believed to have resulted from a domestic dispute and does not pose a threat to the broader community. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office stated that they are not looking for any outstanding suspects, indicating that the case is considered a murder-suicide.
The management company of the Residences West Place Apartments, BH Management Services, expressed deep sadness over the incident and confirmed that they had recently requested increased police patrols in the area and enhanced their own 24/7 on-site courtesy patrol. The company is cooperating fully with the police investigation and is focusing on providing support to the community, staff, and residents affected by the tragedy.
