Eloilda "Ellie" Padilla Shea was a 39-year-old White female and a respected lieutenant with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Florida. Described by colleagues as a "rising star" and a compassionate, dedicated leader, she was known for her infectious, bubbly personality and kind smile. She served as a mentor and an inspiration for other women in law enforcement.
Above all, she was a loving mother to her two young daughters, 7-year-old Lana and 2-year-old Raquel.
On October 14, 2024, authorities responded to a 911 call from Ellie's home on El Prado Avenue in Orlando. Her estranged husband, Anthony Shea, had called to report that Ellie had taken her own life. First responders arrived to find her dead from a gunshot wound to the head.
While the death was initially investigated as a suicide, homicide detectives soon uncovered evidence that pointed to murder. An examination of the gun used in the shooting revealed that it had only Anthony Shea's fingerprints on the trigger, not Ellie's. Investigators also discovered a crucial piece of evidence on Ellie's phone: an accidental audio recording. The recording captured Anthony telling one of their children that their mother was "sleeping" approximately 40 minutes before he placed the 911 call. Detectives noted that the audio also indicated he did not react emotionally to her condition until the emergency dispatcher answered his call.
Based on the evidence, investigators concluded that Anthony Shea, a 49-year-old former sergeant with the same sheriff's office, had shot and killed his wife in her bedroom and attempted to stage the scene to look like a suicide. He had resigned from the agency months earlier during an internal investigation into an alleged years-long affair with another woman while on duty.
Anthony Shea was arrested and charged with first-degree murder with a firearm. He was booked into the Orange County Jail, where he is being held without bond. As of October 2025, he remains jailed on the murder charge, and his trial is scheduled for February.
