Brenda Lee Marquez McCool, a 49-year-old mother of 11 and a two-time cancer survivor, tragically lost her life on June 12, 2016, during the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida. McCool was at the nightclub with her 21-year-old son, Isaiah Henderson, when the gunman, Omar Mateen, opened fire. Witnesses reported that McCool heroically shielded her son from the bullets, ultimately sacrificing her own life to save his.
