Terrell Vaughn, a 37-year-old man from the West Perrine area of Miami-Dade County, Florida, was fatally shot in his home early in the morning on June 23, 2023. The incident occurred at a residence located in the 10200 block of Southwest 175th Street. Vaughn was shot in the upper part of his body and died before he could be taken to a hospital.
Vaughn was described by his family members as a loving father of two and a hard-working deejay.
He was remembered for his kind and giving nature, with his brother Freddie Williams stating that he was a well-liked individual who did nothing wrong and made everyone laugh.
In the week leading up to his death, Vaughn was involved in another disturbing incident. A video posted on Instagram showed him being dragged on the ground by his shirt and pant leg by two men, identified as 19-year-olds Marcus Anthony Sumpter and Tyrell Jermeine Williams. The video, which was taken in front of the same home where Vaughn was later found dead, showed Vaughn, who had one leg amputated above the knee, screaming and attempting to sit up. This incident was captured on camera by one of the perpetrators and was accompanied by a threatening caption.
The investigation into Vaughn's death is ongoing, with police trying to determine what led to the shooting. While Sumpter and Williams have been arrested and charged with abusing a disabled adult in connection with the dragging incident, it is unclear whether they are also suspected of involvement in the fatal shooting.
Vaughn's family expressed their grief and called for justice, highlighting his positive character and the impact of his loss. His cousin, Darrell Collins, described him as kind and giving, and noted that he did not mess with anyone.
