On August 29, 2023, a tragic incident occurred in Orlando, Florida, resulting in the death of 19-year-old Isaiyah Wright. The circumstances surrounding Wright's death were violent and deeply troubling, as he fell victim to a drive-by shooting in the Carver Shores neighborhood.
The shooting took place around 8:20 p.m. in the 1100 block of Poppy Avenue. Wright was one of three victims in this incident, which also claimed the life of 6-year-old Alahliyah Hashim and injured her mother. According to police reports, Wright was not at the scene when officers arrived. He was dropped off at Health Central Hospital in Ocoee by the suspects involved in the shooting, where he was later pronounced dead by medical staff.
Investigators believe the shooting was gang-related, stemming from a social media argument between rival gangs. The Orlando Police Department stated that the shooters targeted the wrong house, as Hashim and her mother were not the intended targets. The incident sparked outrage and concern in the community, highlighting the devastating impact of gang violence and the urgent need for intervention.
In the aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement launched an intensive investigation. Five suspects were identified and arrested in connection with the crime, including three minors aged 15 and 17, and two adults aged 18 and 21. The youngest suspect, 15-year-old Nico Brown, was reportedly left behind at the hospital with Wright's body while the others fled the scene.
Isaiyah Wright had just celebrated his 19th birthday six days before his untimely death. He is remembered by his family, including his parents and siblings, who are left to cherish his memory. The community mourned the loss of both Wright and young Alahliyah Hashim, as local leaders called for action to address the root causes of youth violence and gang activity in Orlando.
