On June 2, 2024, Kerstyn Marie Stahre, a 61-year-old woman, was found dead in a residence in the Kendale Lakes area of Miami-Dade, Florida. The tragic incident was part of a murder-suicide that claimed the lives of four individuals.
Kerstyn Stahre was identified as the girlfriend, though some family members described her as the wife, of Jesus Regueira Jr., the 62-year-old man who perpetrated the killings. Regueira Jr.
shot and killed his elderly parents, Jesus Regueira Sr., 83, and Mercedes Morato, 84, who was under hospice care following a severe stroke. After killing his parents and Stahre, Regueira Jr. turned the gun on himself.
The bodies were discovered by a family friend, Joanna Cruz, who had been asked by her mother to bring food to Morato. When Cruz arrived at the residence, she found the bodies and described the scene as bloody and horrific. The police were called for a welfare check after concerns were raised when healthcare workers, who made daily visits to the home, were unable to enter the residence on Thursday or Friday.
Neighbors reported that the family had lived in the area for years and were known to be quiet individuals. However, there were concerns about Regueira Jr.'s emotional well-being, particularly given his mother's recent health decline. Despite these concerns, Regueira Jr. was described by his sister-in-law as a non-violent and laid-back person, making the incident all the more shocking.
The investigation by the Miami-Dade Police Department indicated a domestic-related motive behind the killings. The police found a gun next to Regueira Jr.'s body, and all four victims had suffered gunshot wounds. The community was left in shock by the tragedy, with neighbors expressing their astonishment at the sudden and violent event in what was otherwise a quiet neighborhood.
