On June 4, 2024, a tragic incident occurred in Melbourne, Florida, resulting in the death of 28-year-old Keyeon Rashad Roberson. Early Tuesday morning, around 12:26 a.m., an officer on patrol discovered Roberson's lifeless body lying next to his crashed gas-powered scooter in the area of Grant and Ryoland streets.
Initially, the officer believed that Roberson had been injured in a scooter accident. However, simultaneous 911 calls reported shots being fired in the same area, leading to a closer inspection that revealed Roberson had been shot. Despite immediate medical aid provided by police and paramedics, Roberson had already succumbed to his injuries.
Roberson, a resident of Palm Bay, Florida, and a father of two young daughters, was identified as the victim. His family, particularly his sister Tasha, was deeply affected by the news, describing the harrowing experience of arriving at the crime scene and confirming the identity of the body.
The investigation into Roberson's death is ongoing. Authorities conducted a comprehensive search of the area involving officers, police K9 units, and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office helicopter, but the gunman remains at large. A witness described hearing gunshots and seeing a figure fleeing the scene shortly after the incident. Based on witness accounts, the suspect is described as a man approximately six feet tall, wearing a dark hoodie and jeans at the time of the incident.
In response to community concerns, the Melbourne Police Department increased patrols in the area and set up a tip line, urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward and help bring the perpetrator to justice.
