On June 5, 2024, a fatal shooting occurred at the Golf Pointe Villas apartment complex on Sheoah Boulevard in Winter Springs, Florida. The incident involved Laurie Adams, a 38-year-old woman, and her husband, Adel Tawfeek, 51 years old. The events leading to the shooting began when Tawfeek became upset upon discovering that their 8-year-old son, who has autism, had defecated in his pants. Tawfeek yelled at the child, and later at Adams, pushing her against a wall during the argument.
