On May 12, 1995, in the Mountain View neighborhood of Anchorage, 44-year-old Sophie Macar, a female, was found dead; an Alaska Native woman whose life ended in a narrow space between a house on 4th Avenue and the American Tire Warehouse off Unga Street. The discovery fixed the scene in the city's memory: a working-class corridor of shops and side yards where dawn traffic and the low hum of industry meet.
