On July 30, 2024, a tragic incident occurred in the 1100 block of Easton Street in Orange County, Florida, resulting in the death of 16-year-old David Anthony Vargas Acker. The shooting happened before 1 a.m. at a residence where Acker was present along with his girlfriend and another friend.
According to investigators, Acker had brought a gun to the home to show his girlfriend and the other friend. The three individuals were pointing the gun at each other and posing with it.
At one point, the 16-year-old girl pointed the gun at Acker, pulled the trigger, and shot him.
When Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at the scene, they found Acker with a gunshot wound. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Following the investigation and consultation with the State Attorney’s Office, detectives secured an arrest warrant for the 16-year-old girl. She was taken into custody on Wednesday and faces a charge of aggravated manslaughter of a child. The girl is currently being held at a juvenile detention center.
The incident highlights the dangers of handling firearms carelessly and the severe consequences that can result from such actions.
