In the late morning hours of September 4, 2015, a tragedy unfolded in a Phoenix, Arizona parking garage that claimed the life of 68-year-old Andre William Ahern. Ahern, a White/Caucasian male, was the owner of Ahern & Associates, a transportation consulting company. He had moved to Phoenix from Chicago in 1988, where he established his business and raised his family.
On that Friday, witnesses reported hearing screams coming from the parking garage of his office building located at 1702
E. Highland Avenue around 11 a.m. Responding firefighters from the Phoenix Fire Department discovered two bodies in a vehicle. One was identified as Andre Ahern, and the other was 36-year-old Susana Nunez. Both had sustained gunshot wounds.
The Phoenix Police Department's investigation revealed that the incident was a murder-suicide. Nunez, who had been an employee at Ahern & Associates for six years, fatally shot her boss before turning the gun on herself. A handgun was recovered from the SUV where the bodies were found. Investigators learned that Nunez had been experiencing significant difficulties in her personal and professional life. However, there was no evidence to suggest that her relationship with Ahern was anything other than professional. The case was considered solved as the primary suspect was deceased at the scene, and no arrests were made.
