On August 25, 2024, a tragic incident occurred in Miami Gardens, Florida, resulting in the death of 20-year-old Mah'ki Eugene Cutler. The incident took place when Cutler and another male victim were leaving a party and were followed by a dark-colored SUV to the area of Northwest 47th Avenue and 183rd Street. The SUV's occupants opened fire on the vehicle, which was a white Nissan driven by Cutler.
During the shooting, there were three toddlers in the backseat of the car, including Cutler's 6-year-old brother and two other children related to the surviving victim. Fortunately, none of the children were hit by the bullets. After the shooting, the victims sought help by running into a nearby McDonald’s.
Mah'ki Eugene Cutler was identified as the victim who was killed in the shooting. His mother, Latoya Thompson, described him as a good kid, very respectful, hardworking, and wise. She received a FaceTime call from her younger son, who was still in the car riddled with bullets, informing her of the incident.
The surviving victim was hospitalized in critical condition but is now listed as stable. The police believe the shooting was a targeted incident and may be gang-related. They are searching for the suspect or suspects and have not released any descriptions yet.
A memorial was built by family members at the scene, and the community is grieving the loss of Cutler. The Miami Gardens Police Department is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for any information that leads to an arrest in the case. As of now, no persons of interest have been identified, and the investigation is ongoing.
