On November 4, 2024, the body of 20-year-old Aniya Sheppard of Fort Pierce was found deceased near the roadway in the area of Eber Boulevard and Buddy Drive in unincorporated West Melbourne, Florida. The discovery was made after a citizen alerted a deputy at a nearby convenience store gas pump, reporting what appeared to be a body on the side of the road. Deputies responded to the scene around 6:40 a.m. and found Sheppard, who had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation, led by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, indicates that Sheppard was the intended target of a violent attack. Agents from the Homicide and Crime Scene Units were dispatched to the area to interview potential witnesses and collect evidence. A resident of the nearby Pine Lake Estates trailer park reported hearing a single gunshot around 6:00 a.m., which aligns with the timing of the incident.
Sheppard's body was taken to the Brevard County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The sheriff’s office has emphasized that the death was not traffic-related and is treating it as a homicide. The investigation is ongoing, with agents continuing to conduct interviews and evaluate evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
