On November 4, 2024, the body of 20-year-old Aniya Sheppard of Fort Pierce was found deceased near the roadway in the area of Eber Boulevard and Buddy Drive in unincorporated West Melbourne, Florida. The discovery was made after a citizen alerted a deputy at a nearby convenience store gas pump, reporting what appeared to be a body on the side of the road. Deputies responded to the scene around 6:40 a.m. and found Sheppard, who had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.
