In the early morning hours of March 7, 2023, the life of 45-year-old Catherine Nicole Curry Roberts, a Black/African American woman from Waterbury, Connecticut, was tragically cut short. The incident unfolded at her home on Mark Lane, where she was shot and killed. Her 19-year-old son was also shot and wounded during the violent encounter but was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
Neighbors were alerted to the dangerous situation when bullets came through their wall,
prompting a call to the Waterbury police. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Catherine Roberts deceased. The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a suspect: Catherine's 44-year-old estranged husband, Solomon Roberts.
Following the shooting, an alert was issued for Solomon Roberts, who was believed to be driving a 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander. Later that same day, his vehicle was spotted by law enforcement on Interstate 81 in Rockingham County, Virginia. As Virginia State Police and Rockingham County Sheriff's deputies approached the vehicle during a traffic stop, they heard a single gunshot from inside. Solomon Roberts was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The investigation confirmed that Solomon Roberts was the sole suspect in the murder of his estranged wife and the shooting of his son. With his death, the search for a suspect in Catherine's murder concluded. The Waterbury police continued their investigation into the specifics of the double shooting.
