In the early hours of April 29, 2019, the life of 33-year-old Nathalie Feliciano, a Hispanic mother from Waterbury, Connecticut, was tragically cut short. A neighbor discovered her lying in the driveway of a home on Edin Avenue shortly after 1:30 a.m., prompting a call to the police. First responders arrived to a grim scene, finding Feliciano deceased from a gunshot wound to the head.
The investigation quickly zeroed in on her boyfriend of approximately six months, 33-year-old Luisito
Dejesus. Feliciano had been at a party with family when she stepped outside to speak with him. Family members later described their relationship as toxic and marred by a history of domestic violence. The circumstances of her death were brutal; reports indicated she had been shot and possibly run over by a vehicle.
Following the discovery of Feliciano's body, a manhunt for Dejesus ensued. He led police on a chase through several towns before he was apprehended. After his arrest, Dejesus confessed to detectives that he had shot Feliciano. He was subsequently charged with murder.
As the legal proceedings began, a portrait of a troubled and abusive relationship emerged. Friends and family revealed that Feliciano had feared for her life, so much so that she had written a letter to her mother expressing her concerns. She leaves behind a son, who was 16 years old at the time of her death. Remembered as a devoted mother who was studying to become a teacher, her death sent shockwaves through her community. Dejesus was held on a $3 million bond.
