In the early hours of September 6, 2023, the body of 31-year-old Hispanic female, Lluvia Robles-Banuelos, was discovered along the South Platte River Trail in Denver, Colorado. She had been fatally shot just before 12:30 a.m. in the area under Interstate 70. Her death marked the beginning of a series of events that would instill fear in the local community.
Three days later, another victim, 43-year-old Jeremy Hutcheson, was found shot to death in a separate incident along the same river
trail. The Denver Police Department launched an investigation into the two homicides, which they soon believed to be connected. A significant breakthrough in the case came on September 12th, when a patrolling officer in the vicinity of the South Platte River Trail heard gunshots. The officer spotted an individual leaving the area, and though the person initially evaded capture, evidence collected at the scene would prove crucial.
Forensic analysis of the evidence from the September 12th shots-fired incident linked both the homicides of Robles-Banuelos and Hutcheson to one suspect: Tanner Fielder. On September 14, 2023, Fielder was arrested in Black Hawk by a team of Denver and Black Hawk police officers. He was subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder. The motive for the killings remained under investigation.
In October 2025, a Denver jury convicted Tanner Fielder on both counts of first-degree murder for the killings of Lluvia Robles-Banuelos and Jeremy Hutcheson. The conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. His sentencing was scheduled for December 15, 2025.
