In the winter of 2023, a family disagreement in Blytheville, Arkansas, took a tragic and fatal turn, ending the life of 25-year-old D'Andre Whitfield. On the afternoon of Tuesday, January 17th, Whitfield was shot multiple times in the 700 block of Central near South 8th Street. The incident, which unfolded in front of a closed business, stemmed from an argument between Whitfield and his 26-year-old cousin, Malik Doharty.
Following the shooting, the Blytheville Police Department quickly
identified Doharty as the suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest on charges of first-degree murder. The victim's mother later recounted that the cousins had been involved in a disagreement. She also stated that shortly after the shooting, Doharty came to her and denied his involvement, claiming he had made up with his cousin.
In the days following the incident, Doharty reportedly took to Facebook, stating his intention to turn himself in to the authorities. However, he did not immediately surrender to the police. The Blytheville Police Department urged anyone with information on Malik Doharty's whereabouts to come forward as the search for him continued.
