In the late hours of a Monday in Little Rock, Arkansas, a burst of violence shattered the night, leaving one man dead. On May 29, 2023, officers from the Little Rock Police Department were dispatched to the 9600 block of West 36th Street following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival at 11:02 p.m., they discovered Dantas Evins, a 30-year-old non-Hispanic male, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Another individual was also found injured at the scene.
Emergency medical services were quick to respond, and both Evins and the other wounded person were transported to local hospitals for urgent medical care. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Evins succumbed to his injuries. The scene of the shooting was secured by law enforcement, and homicide detectives were called in to begin their investigation. The Pulaski County Coroner later transported Evins's body to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
As detectives delved into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, they canvassed the area in search of witnesses and any available video surveillance that might shed light on the events that transpired. In the course of their investigation, a person of interest emerged. Thirty-two-year-old Antonio Holden was identified as a suspect in the incident. He was located and taken into custody, though initially on unrelated charges.
Holden was subsequently taken to the Major Crimes Division for further questioning regarding the death of Dantas Evins. However, following the interview and initial investigation, he was released without being charged in connection with the homicide, pending a file review. The investigation into the death of Dantas Evins remains ongoing. Authorities have notified his next of kin as they continue to piece together the events of that fatal night.
