In the early morning hours of Thursday, November 30, 2023, a violent altercation inside a residence on Church Street in Charleston, Arkansas, ended in the death of 43-year-old Daniel Davis. The Franklin County Sheriff's Office received a call and responded to the home at approximately 1:51 a.m. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Davis inside the residence, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting was taken over by the Arkansas State Police's Criminal Investigation Division at the request of the Franklin County Sheriff's Office. The focus of the investigation quickly led to a suspect.
Authorities arrested Donny Wayne Deer, 26, in connection with the shooting. He has since been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Daniel Davis. Following the initial investigation at the scene, Davis's body was transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to determine the precise cause and manner of death.
