In the early morning hours of September 18, 2024, the life of 50-year-old Lawrence Lamont Arnold Sr., a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in his Jacksonville, Arkansas, home. The residence, located on the 400 block of Smart Street, became a crime scene after police responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 2:00 a.m. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Arnold inside with multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite immediate medical attention, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Outside the home, authorities found Timotheus Danzy, who was identified as Arnold's 41-year-old nephew. After an initial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, Danzy was taken into custody. He was subsequently arrested and faced the grave charge of capital murder in connection with his uncle's death. Following his arrest, Danzy was booked into the Pulaski County jail, where he was held without bond.
Lawrence, affectionately known as 'Googie,' had only been a resident of Jacksonville for two weeks, having moved from Little Rock. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he was raised in Crossett, Arkansas, and was a 1992 graduate of Crossett High School. He was remembered as a friendly and outgoing person who deeply loved his children and family. An avid athlete, he played college football for the Arkansas Razorbacks and later for the ULM Indians. His sudden and violent death left his family and community to mourn the loss of a man described as having a loving and vibrant spirit.
