In the early morning hours of Monday, October 7, 2024, the life of 29-year-old Reginald R. Hannah, a Black/African American male, was cut short in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The tragic events unfolded at a residence in the 5500 block of Mariposa Grove Drive, where Jonesboro police were initially summoned for a report of a window being shot out. Upon their arrival, officers discovered an open door at a neighboring home and, once inside, found Mr. Hannah deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.
The coroner was called to the scene and pronounced him dead.
The investigation into the shooting quickly revealed it to be the result of a domestic disturbance. Authorities found four children inside the home and promptly moved them to safety. A distraught woman, who was involved in the incident, was located nearby and taken into custody for questioning. However, she was later released.
As the investigation progressed, details emerged suggesting the shooting may have occurred in self-defense. The Jonesboro Police Department indicated that the ongoing domestic situation was endangering the welfare of the children in the home. Consequently, the authorities are not actively seeking any suspects in connection with Mr. Hannah's death. The case has since been handed over to the prosecutor's office for a thorough review of the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
