In the spring of 2023, the community of Beckley, West Virginia, was unsettled by a series of violent acts that struck a chord of fear among its residents. It was against this backdrop of growing concern that 17-year-old Karhlyle Hopkins lost his life. On the evening of Tuesday, April 18, 2023, the young man was fatally wounded in a shooting that occurred near Carriage Drive in Beckley.
