On February 13, 2024, Richard E. Crowder, a 74-year-old resident of Mink Shoals in Kanawha County, West Virginia, was found dead in his home on Otter Lane. The discovery was made after a healthcare worker, who was responsible for checking on senior citizens, requested a well-being check when Crowder did not respond to her attempts to contact him.
