In the summer of 2023, a vibrant young life was tragically cut short in Clinton, Iowa. Emma Jean Chadwick, a 20-year-old female, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, succumbing to injuries sustained in a horrific act of violence that unfolded two days prior.
On the early morning of Monday, July 3, 2023, Emma was shot multiple times outside of MercyOne Clinton Medical Center. The senseless act of gun violence left her with critical injuries.
She was transferred to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for advanced medical care, but despite the efforts of the medical teams, she could not overcome the severity of her wounds.
The investigation into the shooting quickly identified a suspect, 39-year-old Randy Allen Jackson. Law enforcement located Jackson at his residence, leading to a tense standoff. The situation escalated, and an officer ultimately shot Jackson, who was pronounced dead at a local hospital. It was later revealed that another adult male had also been shot and wounded in a related incident outside the same hospital late on Sunday.
