In the early morning hours of August 25, 2024, a 911 call shattered the quiet of a Sioux City, Iowa home. Edmund Pendleton, 38, reported that his girlfriend, 46-year-old Danielle Dolan, had shot herself. First responders rushed to the residence on the 300 block of 19th Street, where they found Dolan in a bedroom, unresponsive but still breathing. She had a gunshot wound to her head, and a gun was in her hand.
Paramedics transported her to a local hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries.
Initially, the scene suggested a suicide, as reported by Pendleton. However, as investigators delved deeper into the circumstances surrounding Dolan's death, inconsistencies began to emerge. Friends and family of Dolan, also known as Danielle "Dany Boy" L. Dolan, were devastated by the news of her sudden and violent death. The couple had reportedly been dating for about two months.
The turning point in the investigation came with the results of an autopsy. The medical examiner ruled Dolan's death a homicide, revealing that the gunshot wound was to the back of her head. This finding directly contradicted Pendleton's account of a self-inflicted wound. Based on the autopsy results and other evidence gathered during their investigation, Sioux City police arrested Edmund Pendleton. He has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Danielle Dolan and is being held at the Woodbury County Jail.
