In the early morning hours of June 19, 2019, the life of 43-year-old Christy Hribal, a Caucasian female, was tragically cut short in Creston, Iowa. Just after 2:00 a.m., Creston police officers were dispatched to a residence on North Pine Street following a report of gunfire. Upon entering the home, they discovered Christy suffering from a gunshot wound. At the time of the incident, she was merely a visitor at the house.
Emergency medical services were rendered at the scene, and due to the severity of her injuries, Christy was airlifted to a hospital in Des Moines. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, she succumbed to her injuries and passed away. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation was brought in to assist the Creston Police Department in piecing together the events that led to the fatal shooting.
At the scene of the crime, law enforcement arrested 36-year-old Charles Keeton of Creston. Initially, Keeton was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. However, as the investigation progressed and following Christy's death, the charges against him were upgraded to second-degree murder. Authorities did not immediately comment on whether the shooting was intentional or accidental.
Christy, a former resident of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, was a mother who was deeply devoted to her children. She had previously worked as a cook for the Creston elementary and middle schools and later at Grandview University. Her family and friends remember her as a loving individual with a fighting spirit. A memorial service was held to honor her memory, and she was laid to rest at Lambirth Cemetery.
